USTA Pro Circuit Bronx Open Set for August 7-14

The EmblemHealth Bronx Open, a $50,000 USTA Women’s Professional Tennis Challenger Circuit Event, showcases a strong main draw of international players that will vie for the title at Crotona Park, Bronx, New York from August 7-14, 2011.

The New York Junior Tennis League (NYJTL) founded the tournament in 1994 and is the event’s beneficiary.

This is the final USTA Pro Circuit tournament prior to the US Open. The USTA Pro Circuit includes more than 100 tournaments throughout the United States.  Qualifying matches are played on Sunday, August 7 and Monday, August 8 for the remaining four slots to be included in the 32 Main Draw beginning on August 9.

The EmblemHealth Bronx Open welcomes the L1 EmblemHealth Junior Championships starting on Thursday, August 11 through Sunday, August 14.  The tournament will showcase 80–100 top boys and girls singles players, ages 10-18, all from USTA Eastern. The players come from New York City and New York State, Long Island, New Jersey and Connecticut.

General admission to the EmblemHealth Bronx Open is free.  There is a $10 charge for the finals on Sunday, August 14.


NYJTL will provide free tennis lessons for children Sunday, August 7 through Sunday, August 14 from noon to 3 pm. There are special daily activities provided for all age groups from children through senior citizens. Visit www.nyjtl.org for more information and the daily schedule.
