Goerges Upsets Defending Champ Wozniacki in Dubai

It will be a Julia Goerges versus Agnieszska Radwanska  match-up for Saturday’s final in the Dubai Tennis Championships.  Last year’s champion Caroline Wozniacki fell to Germany’s Goerges 7-6(3), 7-5 on Friday. The German rallied from 2-4 down in the final set to clinch the victory.
“I didn’t play my best game today,” Wozniacki said. “Made way too many unforced errors, and Julia took advantage of that.

“I felt I had all the opportunities in the world today and didn’t take advantage of them. If you don’t take your chances, there is no way to win, It’s easy to say I should have done this and could have done that. But, you know, as well for Julia she took her chances. If I came with a weak shot she was there straight away and she punished me.”

Pole Radwanksa topped Serb Jelena Jankovic in the other semifinal 6-2, 2-6, 6-0.

“Actually she just start to play much better in the second set. I was really in trouble,” stated Radwanska. “But in the third set, I was just trying to be focused on my game and just fight until the end.

“I think also the second game of this third set was the key in this match. Because I think I really get more confident after that and I think she get a bit angry.

“Jelena plays great tennis here every year and has had great results at this tournament. So I knew I had to play much better than the other days.”

“Last year I was somehow playing good tennis from the summer on,” said Radwanska. “I was feeling really confident on the court and playing a lot of good matches against top players. And for the first time I finished No.8. I was working hard in the off-season but pretty much doing everything the same. It has been great to continue playing great tennis this year.

Radwanksa and Goerges have met only once, with the Pole defeating the German at the most recent Australian Open in the fourth round 6-1, 6-1
