Rafael Nadal Withdraws from US Open

NEW YORK, NY – Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the US Open due to ongoing knee issues.

US Open Tournament director David Brewer released the following statement:

“Rafa has informed us that he will not be ready to compete at the US Open this year and has withdrawn from the tournament.  We hope to see him back on the court soon and look forward to his return to New York next year.”

The World No. 3 announced on his twitter account : @RafaelNadal: I am very sad to announce that I am not ready to play the US Open in NY. Thanks to my fans for their support and specially, the new yorkers.

Nadal has not played in a tournament since he lost in the second round of Wimbledon.  At last year’s US Open, Nadal was the runner-up to Novak Djokovic. He has now withdrawn from his last four tournaments – the Olympics, Toronto, Cincinnati and now the US Open.
