(January 4, 2013) It’s been a week of resurgence for Nikolay Davydenko as he took out top seed and World No. 5 David Ferrer 6-2, 6-3 to reach the Qatar Open final.
“Physically I was strong,” said Former World No. 3 Davydenko of the victory. “Concentration was good. I fought for every point. Second set was a little bit tougher. I would like to beat everybody who is in the Top 10. It doesn’t matter if I’m not there.
“He played better than me all the time,” said Ferrer “He served better. He received better. He was better. I didn’t have any chances in the match. Davydenko is a very good player. He was Top 10 a long time.”
Joining the Russian in the Doha final will be Richard Gasquet who held back Daniel Brands 7-5, 7-5.
“I have to win this final, but, yeah, it’s true, I’m feeling well,” said Gasquet.
“I don’t know what I can do this year. But on every match I will try to fight, and I will try to prepare better on Grand Slams, to win some tournaments, to start in Doha in the final, so it’s important to win.”
