(March 15, 2013) Mardy Fish and Ernests Gulbis have withdrawn from next week’s Sony Open in Miami.
Fish made the announcement on his twitter account:
“Unfortunately I won’t be able to compete in Miami this year friends,” he tweeted. “Hope to be out there again soon! Thanks for the love and support in IW!”
Fish made a return to the tour from heart problems at Indian Wells where he fell in his second match to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. He last played before this at the 2012 US Open.
Latvian media are reporting that Gulbis will not enter the qualifying in Miami, opting to prepare for Davis Cup. Until his loss to Rafael Nadal in the Indian Wells round of 16, Gulbis had a 13- match win streak.
Roger Federer will not play in Miami and he took it off his schedule since the beginning of the year.
