(July 20, 1013) Top seed Roger Federer fell to qualifier Federico Delbonis 7-6(7), 7-6(4) in the semifinals of Hamburg on Saturday. World No. 114 Debonis, the southpaw from Argentina outplayed the Swiss from start to finish. For Federer it’s the first time since 2002 that he has lost to two players outside of the top 100 in the same year. Federer lost in the second round of Wimbledon.
Delbonis will meet Fabio Fognini for the title on Sunday. The Italian, who won his first ATP title last week in Stuttgart defeated third seed Nicolas Almagro 6-4, 7-6(1). Fognini is on a nine-match winning streak.
