(December 4, 2013) World No.1 Rafael Nadal has committed to play the ATP event in the Buenos Aires February 10 – 16, 2014. It’s will be the first time since 2005 that the Spaniard has participated in the event. That year Nadal fell to 2004 French Open winner Argentine Gaston Gaudio in the quarterfinals.
“I’m going to return to the Buenos Aires tournament and I’m excited to play the Copa Claro again,” Nadal said in a video played at a news conference.
Nadal recently wrapped up a set of exhibitions in Argentina against No. 2 Novak Djokovic.
Nadal returned to the tour after a seven-month layoff last February at the Vina del Mar tournament in Chile. Nadal ended the 2013 year at No. 1 winning 10 titles, including two majors- the French Open and the US Open.
