(January 3, 2014) World No. 1 Rafael Nadal has earned a spot into the Qatar Open final after passing a test against German qualifier Peter Gojowczyk 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Gojowczyk, ranked 162nd player in the world started quickly against the Spaniard, winning the first three games of the match. Nadal rebounded to even the first set, but was broken for the set while serving at 4-5.
Nadal returned the form which has made him the top player he is, dropping only five games over the next two sets for the victory.
Nadal will play Gael Monfils in Saturday’s final. The Frenchman dismissed Florian Mayer 6-1, 6-2 in his semifinal. Monfils has not dropped a set in Doha this week.
Nadal holds an 8-2 record against Monfils, with both of Monfils’ wins coming against Nadal in Doha.
