BNP Paribas Open Special Events At 2014 Tournament

INDIAN WELLS, Calif., Feb. 28, 2014 – A wide variety of fan-friendly events are slated for the 2014 BNP Paribas Open, the ATP World Tour and WTA combined two-week event in the world to be held March 3-16, at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.


The Tennis Channel will once again feature a half-hour lead-in show before each day’s play (Thursday, March 6-Thursday, March 13, 10:30-11:00 a.m.) live from their news desk and displayed on the Stadium Plaza video wall. Hosted by Brett Haber and Hall of Famer Tracy Austin, Live at the BNP Paribas Open will feature news updates, guest interviews and conversation about what can be expected in the day ahead. As the hub of Tennis Channel’s tournament coverage throughout the day, the desk will feature regular appearances by celebrities, players and the network’s on-air team which, beyond Haber and Austin, includes Jim Courier, Mary Carillo, Lindsay Davenport, Justin Gimelstob, Leif Shiras and Mark Knowles.


On Saturday, March 1, the Indian Wells Tennis Garden will host BNP Paribas Open Kids Day, boasting a fun day of activities on and off the court. Featuring ATP World Tour and WTA professional player appearances, the event will also include on-court clinics and is free to the general public.


New to 2014 is “Serve It Up,” where lucky fans will have a chance to come on Main Stadium court and meet a player before the matches start. In addition, throughout the tournament, sponsors will engage fans to win prizes such as Indian Wells spa and dining certificates or Esurance t-shirts.


One of the annual events that fans look forward to is Salute to Heroes Night presented by the City of Indian Wells. On Friday, March 7, a special ceremony recognizing veterans, military personnel, police and firemen will be conducted following the first evening session match. During the day a USO tribute with the Swing Dolls and a Bob Hope look alike will entertain fans.


On Emirates Day, Saturday, March 8, fans can participate in the “Emirates Airline Ball Flight” on Main Stadium where they can win prizes including tickets to the finals or round-trip airfare from Los Angeles to Dubai.


On the middle and final weekends (March 8-9, 15-16 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.), BNP Paribas will continue its tennis ball recycling program with Rally, Roundup & Recycle. The first 1,000 fans that bring six or more used tennis balls to the North side of the Superwall in the Plaza will receive one free can of new Penn tennis balls.


The Tennis Garden Village will come alive each night with live music and entertainment from Thursday, March 6-Friday, March 14. Kicking things off will be the greatest doubles team in the history of the game and defending BNP Paribas Open Doubles Champions – Bob and Mike Bryan. The Bryan Brothers Band will hold an exclusive performance featuring Michael Johns from American Idol, Jim Bogios from Counting Crows and Southern Californian singer/songwriter George Holdcroft.


Four nationally-ranked collegiate squads visit the BNP Paribas Open on Saturday, March 15–Sunday, March 16, as Baylor, California-Berkeley, Illinois and Tulsa compete in the Oracle Collegiate Tennis Challenge. Play begins at 9 a.m., and is free for fans with BNP Paribas Open tickets or event credentials for the respective date.


When fans are out on the grounds, they can shop for the latest tennis fashions from Fila in their retail store, including the new Heritage Collection designed by Ginny Hilfiger and debuting exclusively on March 6. If it’s equipment they are after, look no further than Tennis Warehouse and its demo court, featuring the latest racquets from HEAD and other top brands.
