TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – May 2, 2014Years removed from his Top 15 ranking, Robby Ginepri can still play some top-notch tennis.

The 31-year-old American who reached the U.S. Open semifinals in 2005 is one match away from a trip to the French Open as the Har-Tru USTA Pro Circuit Wild Card recipient after beating No. 7 seed James Ward 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 on Friday.

“It hasn’t really gone my way until this week,” the world No. 442 Ginepri said of the Wild Card Challenge. “It’s back to the clay tomorrow, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Ginepri entered the Tallahassee Tennis Challenge with zero point, but now is looking to overcome wild card leader Daniel Kosakowski after Alex Kuznetsov bowed out on Friday. Top seed Donald Young stopped Kuznetsov in a two-hour, 36-minute epic, the top seed winning 7-6 (10), 4-6, 6-4.

Ginepri and Young both won indoors, as did James McGee, who beat Yoshihito Nishioka 7-6 (5), 7-5. Frank Dancevic, a finalist here in Tallahassee in 2012, booked the fourth and final semifinal spot with a 7-6 (7), 6-2 win over Gerald Melzer outdoors on the clay at the Forestmeadows Tennis Center.

Ginepri meets McGee and Young takes Dancevic in a pair of semifinals that begin at 10 and 11 am, respectively, on Saturday morning. The doubles final will be played at noon with the singles final to be held not before 2 pm. The jam-packed Saturday schedule comes on the heels of a rain-ridden week.

Ryan Agar and Sebastian Bader secured their spot in the doubles final Friday evening before Americans Bjorn Fratangelo and Mitchell Krueger won during the night session. This will be the first time these two teams have met.
