Novak Djokovic Withdraws from Madrid Open with Wrist Injury

(May 4, 2014) World No. 2 Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the Madrid Open before ti’s begun, with a right wrist injury, the same injury he had a few weeks ago when he played the Monte Carlo Masters tournament.

“I did everything possible in order to play in Madrid … but unfortunately my right arm injury has flared up again,” he told media. “Now I will take some time to recover and heal my injury, hoping I will be ready for Rome. I look forward to returning to Madrid next year.”

“I am very sorry for the Madrid tournament and all the Spanish fans to have to pull out of the Mutua Madrid Open.”

Djokovic is setting his sights on returning to the tour to play Rome which begins on May 11.
