TOP SEEDS ARJUN KADHE AND LUCAS GERCH ADVANCE TO 4TH ROUND
AT 128th ANNUAL PACIFIC COAST MEN’S DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP Saturday’s Action to Begin at 9 a.m. (PST) at La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club
La Jolla, Calif. – (March 3, 2017) – The top-seeded collegiate team of Arjun Kadhe and Lucas Gerch of Oklahoma State University put together strong performances on Friday at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club to advance to the fourth round of the 128th Annual Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship.
After receiving a first-round bye, Kadhe and Gerch defeated Julian Gordy and Daniel Morkovine of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 8-2 in second-round action. Later in the day, the top seeds eliminated Pedro Platzeck and Gregory Wischer of Boise State University, 8-5 in a third-round match.
Kadhe and Gerch are scheduled to face unseeded Roy Lederman and Brandon Sutter of Stanford University on Saturday in the fourth round at 9 a.m. (PST).
“It’s an unbelievable tournament. It’s nice to get out here and enjoy great weather and play some good doubles. It’s a really prestigious tournament and there are really good teams here this year,” said Kadhe, a three-time All-American who captured last year’s Pacific Coast Doubles title with OSU teammate Julian Cash.
Gerch also has a Pacific Coast Doubles Championship under his belt. The native of Berlin, Germany, won the title in 2015 with former OSU teammate Nicolai Ferrigno. “We’re just enjoying the time here. We’re trying out best, playing doubles. I hope to win the title again,” he said.
The top-seeded independent doubles team of Deiton Baughman and Krzysztof Kwinta withdrew just prior to the start of the tournament due to illness.
Saturday and Sunday’s matches will get underway at 9 a.m. (PST). The tournament used a shortened match format (8-game Pro Set) for the first three rounds. All matches on Saturday and Sunday will be best two of three sets.
La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club welcomes tennis spectators to view the tournament with free admission. On-site parking is available for a nominal fee.

The four-day doubles tournament is the second-oldest tennis event in the United States and features players from many of the top NCAA Men’s college teams along with a strong field of independent players, which includes teaching pros, promising juniors, college coaches and former tour players.
Named “Club of the Year” for 2011 by the San Diego District Tennis Association and one of the “Top 50 Tennis Resorts in the World” by Tennis Resorts Online, the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club’s reputation as a top tennis destination started when it attracted its first major tournament – the Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship in 1942. The tournament is one of the five-oldest tennis events in the world and the second oldest tennis event in the United States. First held in 1890 at The Hotel Del Monte in Monterey, California, the event was created to promote the sale of real estate on the Monterey peninsula. The original concept pitted the best players from the East versus those from the West. This coast-to-coast rivalry was the inspiration for the Davis Cup.
Past winners of the Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship include some on the greatest names in tennis, including Jack Kramer, Ted Schroeder, Bobby Riggs, Pancho Segura, Don Budge, Tony Trabert, Stan Smith, Bob Lutz, Arthur Ashe, Dennis Ralston and John McEnroe.
The Club is also scheduled to host the USTA National Hard Court Championships for Women’s 50-90 age groups and La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club Hard Court Tournament for Men’s 60-85 age groups on Monday, May 8, through Sunday, May 14.
