RITA PRICE WRAPS UP 90 SINGLES TITLE AT USTA
NATIONAL WOMEN’S 50-90 HARD COURT CHAMPIONSHIPS
Tournament to Conclude on Sunday with Full Schedule of Consolation Matches
La Jolla, Calif. – (May 13, 2017) – Rita Price of Aurora, Colo., used an all-court game to blank Helene Salvetat of Hossegor, France 6-0, 6-0 and capture the 90 and over singles title of the USTA National Women’s 50-90 Hard Court Championships at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.
Playing in the round-robin format used in the 90 and over division, the 90-year-old Price defeated Joyce Vanderpol of Blaine, Wash., 6-0, 6-1 earlier in the week.
At the conclusion of the final 90 and over singles match, Price was awarded a USTA gold ball for winning the national championship. Vanderpol received a USTA silver ball for finishing in second place and Hossegor was presented with a USTA bronze ball for third place.
In the 50 and over division, second-seeded Nathalie Herreman-Bagby of Pacific Palisades, Calif., overcame fourth-seeded Shelly Works of San Antonio, 6-4, 6-4 to finish the tournament in third place. Tina Karwasky of Glendale, Calif., the top-seed in the 60 and over division, captured third place with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over fifth-seeded Sherri Bronson of Scottsdale, Ariz. Both winners were awarded USTA bronze balls.
