La Jolla, Calif. – (December 1, 2017) – The men’s singles semifinals and the women’s singles final of the USTA National 40 Hard Court Championships will highlight Saturday’s tournament schedule at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.
The men’s semifinals will begin at 10:30 a.m. (PST). Top-seeded David McNamara of Delray Beach, Fla., will go up against fourth-seeded Stuart Duncan of Laguna Beach, Calif., while third-seed and defending singles champion Jeff Greenwald of San Anselmo, Calif., faces second-seeded Samuel Schroerlucke of Memphis, Tenn.
Top-seed and defending women’s champion Hiromi Sasano of La Mesa, Calif., will meet second-seeded Dina McBride of Valencia, Calif., in the women’s singles final, which is scheduled to begin not before noon (PST).
Sasano, a teaching professional at San Diego’s Balboa Tennis Club, has been the most dominant player in the women’s singles draw. After receiving a first-round bye, she has dropped a total of only three games in three matches on her way to reaching the final.
McBride, a former collegiate tennis player at the University of San Diego, won the USTA National 40 Hard Court singles title in 2012 and 2014. She is currently the Tennis Director at The Paseo Club Valencia.
Saturday’s women’s final will be a rematch of last year’s singles championship. Sasano captured the 2016 title when McBride suffered a leg injury in the first set and was forced to retire from the match.
