FLUSHING MEADOWS, NY – Second seed Agnieszka Radwanska ran past Nina Bratchikova 6-1, 6-1 i inn her first round match 54 minutes at the US Open on Arthur Ashe Stadium on Tuesday.
The Russian Bratchikova was making her US Open debut.
Radwanska, who has never made it past the fourth round at the US Open, had to retire from her opening match at New Haven last week with a sore shoulder.
The Pole spoke about the pressure of being the No. 2 seed: â€œIt’s always a bit harder because the people expecting you to play well and go far in the tournament.
â€œBut just trying not to really think about pressure.Â Just doing my best.Â Not really have much point to defend from last year.Â At least this is the good thing.
â€œYou know, I’m really trying to do better results than last few years.â€
â€œI’m just very happy that I could give it my best in the first match,â€ said Radwanska. Â â€œIt’s always difficult for the first match.Â Every week it’s different surface, different balls.
â€œI was very happy I could play my first match on stadium.â€
The Polish woman hit 15 winners to her opponentâ€™s 28 unforced errors.
