(July 23, 2026) The International Tennis Federation, now known as World Tennis, announced on Thursday the dates for the tennis events at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The event will run from July 19-28, 2028, taking place at the Carson Courts in the Carson Zone. This is one week after the Wimbledon Championships end.
Eleven outdoor hard courts will be used: a 10,000-capacity permanent Center Court; two temporary show courts – Court 1 and Court 2; and eight outside courts.
The stadium and surrounding courts serve as a year-round training base for the United States Tennis Association (USTA), bringing elite junior and professional players to the facility. The venue has hosted various international events in the past. The other sports in the Carson Zone are archery, rugby sevens, track cycling and field hockey.
he draw sizes for the five events remain the same: men’s/women’s singles (64 players), men’s/women’s doubles (32 teams) and mixed doubles (16 teams). Nations can have up to four players in singles, two teams in doubles and one team in mixed doubles.
However, the mixed doubles event will be held over the first two days, with two rounds on Wednesday, and the semifinals and medal matches on Thursday. Only mixed doubles matches will be played on Day 1, with men’s and women’s singles starting on Day 2.
The medal matches for the four other events will be held on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 July.
Six World Tennis Places will be awarded: four to winners of continental games, and two to former Olympic gold medallists or Grand Slam champions.
The Pacific Games will be part of the Qualification pathway for the first time. The singles winners of the following four continental games will earn a World Tennis Place provided they are ranked in the Top 500 and their nation quota has not already been filled by direct acceptances: 2026 Asian Games (Japan), 2027 African Games (Egypt), 2027 Pan Am Games (Peru) and 2027 Pacific Games (Tahiti).
The two World Tennis Places for gold medallists/major tournament champions go to the players with the most titles, then to those with the higher world rankings.
To be eligible to compete in the Olympic Tennis Event at LA28, all athletes must be in good standing with their National Association and World Tennis.
According to World Tennis’s Qualification System, the player must have fulfilled the minimum participation requirement in World Tennis’s Davis Cup or Billie Jean King Cup competitions during the Olympic Cycle.
Entries are also based on the ATP and WTA rankings of Monday 12 June 2028 (the day after the conclusion of 2028 Roland Garros).
