Victor Lilov Wins Les Petits As 14-and-Under Singles Title
Lilov Becomes Fourth American to Win Les Petits As and Junior International Teen Tennis Singles Titles in the Same Year
White Plains, N.Y., January 28, 2018 – Victor Lilov (13, Raleigh, N.C.; Coach: Paul Goode) made history on Sunday by winning the singles title at the prestigious Les Petits As 14-and-under junior tournament in Tarbes, France — an event that counts the likes of Rafael Nadal and Kim Clijsters among its previous champions.
Lilov defeated Mikhail Gorokhov of Russia, 6-4, 7-6(1), on Sunday to sweep the singles and doubles titles at the Les Petits As and Junior International Teen Tennis events in consecutive weeks. He is the ninth player, male or female, to win both of those titles in the same year, and the fourth American, following CiCi Bellis (2013), Frances Tiafoe (2012) and Donald Young (2003), since the Teen Tennis event began in 1995.
Lilov and Evan Wen (14, Morristown, N.J.; Coach: Randy Bloemendaal) also won the Les Petits As doubles title, defeating Italians Niccolo Ciavarella and Daniele Minighini, 6-0, 6-3.
