Elise Mertens Wins Lugano, Anna Karolina Schmiedlova is the Winner in Bogota

(April 15, 2018) Elise Mertens won the Samsung Open on Sunday, beating Aryna Sabalenka 7-5, 6-2 to win her third career WTA Tour title.
The Belgian, ranked 20 in the world wins her second title of the year, she also won Hobart in January.
This was the 19-year-old Sabalenka’s second final on the WTA Tour. Ranked No. 61, the Belarusian is now 0-2 in tournament finals.
Mertens and Sabalenka will rise to career-high rankings of No.17 and No.47, respectively, in the new rankings.
Mertens was a double winner on Sunday, also teaming up with countrywoman Kirsten Flipkens to win their first doubles title together.
Flipkens now has three doubles titles, while Mertens has four.

In Bogota, the Claro Open Colsanitas unseeded Anna Karolina Schmiedlova defeated fifth seed Lara Arruabarrena 6-2, 6-4. Schmiedlova wins her third WTA title and first since taking the title at Katowice and Bucharest in 2015. For Arruabarrena, it’s her second straight year as the runner-up. Schmiedlova will move up to No.84 in the new rankings, while Arruabarrena remains at No.79.
