
(April 29, 2018) No. 5 seed Karolina Pliskova ended CoCo Vandeweghe’s career week on clay, 7-6 (2), 6-4 to win the Stuttgart Open final on Sunday. Pliskova became the first Czech to win the title in the tournament’s history.
The American Vandeweghe, ranked No. 16 was given a wild card into the event. She knocked out Fed Cup teammate and Top Ten player Sloane Stephens, in the first round, defending champion Laura Siegemund and world No. 1 Simona Halep over the week en route to her first career clay court final.
This is Pliskova’s 10th career WTA Tour title, this was her second clay court crown.
