(May 5, 2018) Hometown girl made good on Saturday as Petra Kvitova rallied to beat seventh seed Mihaela Buzarnescu of Romania 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 to win her second Prague Open title. It’s Kvitova’s first clay court title in three years.
For the second-seeded Czech, it was the 23rd career WTA title, her third trophy this year. The two-time Wimbledon champion also won the Doha and St. Petersburg.
Elise Mertens joined Kvitova taking her third title of 2018. Mertens won her fourth career title defeating Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic 6-2, 7-6(4) to claim the Grand Prix de SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem crown for a second straight year. The Begian also took home trophies for Hobart and Lugano earlier in the year.
