ESPN Tennis: US Open Series & Road to New York Begins in Atlanta

  Road to US Open: 72.5 Hours on ESPN2, Eight Championships – Four ATP, Four WTA

Tennis’ US Open Series – seven hard-court events (three ATP, three WTA, one combined) across North America in five weeks – begins Monday, July 23, with the ATP BB&T Atlanta Open. ESPN2 will provide 72.5 hours of coverage over the seven events, with extensive coverage on ESPN3.

 

ATP BB&T Atlanta Open, Atlanta

July 23-29

  • ESPN3 with 42 hours, ESPN2 with four including the championship Sunday, July 29, at 5 p.m. ET
  • Preview: Four-time BB&T Atlanta Open singles champion American John Isner will look to defend his title against No. 10-ranked American Jack Sock and 2017 Memphis Open singles champion Ryan Harrison. 2016 Champion Nick Kyrgios will also return to the tournament.

WTA Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic, San Jose, Calif.

July 30 – August 5

  • ESPN3 with 48 hours, ESPN2 with six including the championship Sunday, Aug. 5, at 5 p.m.
  • Preview: 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams highlights the player field amongst others including her sister Seven-Time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams, defending tournament champion Madison Keys, two-time Grand Slam champion Victoria Azarenka alongside budding Americans CoCo Vandeweghe, Allison Riske, Danielle Collins and Sachia Vickery.

ATP / WTA Rogers Cup, Toronto (men), Montreal (women)

August 6-12

  • ESPN2 with 24.5 hours including the championships Sunday, Aug. 12, at 1:30 p.m. (WTA) and 4 p.m. (ATP)
  • ATP Preview: The Rogers Cup will host 20-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer, No. 1 World ranked Rafael Nadal, 13-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic, and 2017 singles champion Alexander Zverev. Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray received a wild card for the tournament. Three World Top-20 Americans in John Isner, Sam Querrey and Jack Sock will compete for the title.
  • WTA Preview: The WTA premier event features the top 25 women ranked in the world including five-time Major winner Maria Sharapova and recent Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber, along with three Top-10 American women Sloane Stephens, Venus Williams and Madison Keys who will challenge defending champion Simona Halep.

 

ATP / WTA Western & Southern Open, Cincinnati

August 12-19

  • ESPN3 with two hours, ESPN2 with 28 including all four semifinals, plus the championships Sunday, Aug. 19, at 2 p.m. (WTA) and 4 p.m. (ATP).
  • ATP Preview: The Western & Southern Open is a Masters 1000 event requiring all Top-44 men to compete. 17-time Major champion Rafael Nadal and Seven-time W&S Open champion Roger Federer headline the event alongside 13-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic, No. 4 World ranked Juan Martin del Potro and 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic. Americans John Isner and Jack Sock will also compete at the tournament.
  • WTA Preview: The women’s tournament is a Premier 5 WTA event featuring WTA No. 1 ranked Simona Halep, 2018 Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki and defending champion Garbine Muguruza. Americans Venus Williams, Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys will also contend for the title.

WTA Connecticut Open, New Haven, Conn.

August 19 – 25

  • ESPN3 with 44 hours, ESPN2 with six, including both semifinals, plus the championship Saturday, Aug. 25, at 3 p.m.
  • Preview: Seven of the WTA Top-20 will compete including No. 6 Caroline Garcia, two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova and American Danielle Collins who has been given a wild card. Budding stars Aryna Sabalenka and Anett Kontaveit will also join the field.

 

ATP Winston-Salem Open, Winston-Salem, N.C.

August 20 – 25

  • ESPN3 with 30 hours, ESPN2 with four, including the championship Saturday, Aug. 25 at 5 p.m.
  • Preview: Three Top-20 players David Goffin, Pablo Carreno Busta, and Sam Querrey highlight the competition. Hyeon Chung and Damir Dzuhmur also join the field, totaling 16 top 50 players.
