U.S. Fed Cup Team to Host Australia in 2019 First Round Feb. 9-10

US Fed Cup Team news conference

July 24, 2018 — The U.S. Fed Cup Team will host Australia in the 2019 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas First Round Feb. 9-10, as the 2019 draw was revealed this morning in London. The USTA will commence with a request-for-proposal process in the coming weeks for potential host sites via usta.com/fedcup.

The U.S. won its record 18th Fed Cup title in 2017 and will play the Czech Republic in the 2018 Fed Cup Final November 10-11 at the O2 Arena in Prague in a bid to win consecutive Fed Cup titles for the first time since 1999-2000.

This will mark the fourth straight year the U.S. will have hosted its First Round tie. This year, the U.S. hosted the Netherlands in Asheville, N.C., a tie that saw the U.S. advance to the semifinals in front of sellout crowds while generating an estimated $3.5 million impact for the local economy.

The Americans are 9-5 all-time in Fed Cup vs. Australia, their last meeting coming in 2016 — a 4-0 victory for the U.S. in Brisbane in 2016’s World Group Playoffs. Before then, the two countries hadn’t met since 1985.

Fed Cup is the world’s largest annual international team competition in women’s sport, with approximately 100 nations taking part each year. The U.S. holds an overall 151-36 record in Fed Cup competition and has won a record 18 titles. For more information, including access to player and historical Fed Cup records, please go to www.usta.com/fedcup or www.fedcup.com.
