(August 4, 2018) No. 2 seed Fabio Fognini surprised top seed Juan martin del Potro 6-4, 6-2 to win the Los
Cabos title on Saturday night.

It’s the Italian’s third title of 2018 and eighth of his career, and his first not on a clay court. It is also the first time that Fognini has won more than two titles in a year.

“It’s something strange because, of course, at the beginning of the week if you told me that we would be talking about titles… I am really happy, happy about this week, about my game. Of course it means a lot for me,” Fognini said.

Del Potro, who won Acapulco, was trying to win the Mexican double – the Acapulco and Los Cabos titles.

Fognini will see his ranking rise to No. 14, just one notch short of his career high ranking at No. 13.
