Dayana Yastremska Wins Hong Kong Open for First WTA Title
(October 14, 2018) Ukrainian teenager Dayana Yastremska won her first WTA title knocking out sixth-seeded Wang Qiang of China 6-2, 6-1 in 65 minutes at the Hong Kong Open on Sunday. This only her 11th career WTA level tournament.
At 18-years old, Yastremska is the sixth teenager to reach a WTA final this year and the second to claim a title. Olga Danilovic of Serbia won the Moscow River Cup earlier this year.
Wang, who is the top women’s player in China will see her ranking rise to a career high No. 23.
Yastremska, ranked No. 102, will jump into he Top 100 for the first time on Monday.

Caroline Garcia rallied from 1-5 down in the first set tiebreaker to beat top seed Karolina Pliskova 7-6(7), 6-3 to win the Tianjin Open. It’s her first title on the WTA Tour since winning two titles in China last year at Wuhan and Beijing.
“Of course, I’ve won three titles in China so it’s bringing me luck,” said the world No. 16 Garcia after the match. “It’s really nice, China is doing a lot for women’s tennis.”
