Oracle Challenger Series – Saturday Summary and Results
(January 26, 2019) Semifinal Saturday at the Oracle Challenger Series did not disappoint. In the first match of the day, No. 7 seed Jessica Pegula took down fellow American Lauren Davis in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the final. She will face Canadian Bianca Andreescu, who defeated the second-seeded Tatjana Maria in a grueling 7-5, 5-7, 7-6(3) match. On the men’s side, the final will pit No. 1 seed and local Californian Taylor Fritz against Canadian Brayden Schnur, who has had a stellar week in Newport Beach. Fritz made quick work of Enzo Couacaud in today’s semifinal, 6-1, 6-4. Meanwhile, Schnur needed three tough sets to knock out American Donald Young 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(6).
The women’s double champions were also crowned on Saturday, as the All-American duo of Hayley Carter / Ena Shibahara took down Taylor Townsend / Yanina Wickmayer.
Championship Sunday will feature the women’s singles final beginning at 10:00 am, followed by the men’s singles final and the men’s doubles final.
