Tennis Channel / USTA College Tennis Top 25 — February 6, 2019

ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 6, 2019 – Big results led to big jumps for both the Michigan and North Carolina State women’s teams from Week 1 to Week 2 in the Tennis Channel / USTA College Tennis Top 25, with both programs now tied at No. 10.

The Wolfpack produced a significant win in Gainesville last week, taking down Florida in what was only the Gators’ fourth home loss in the last 20 years, as junior Anna Rodgers (Stamford, Conn.) clinched a 4-3 victory. The Wolverines, meanwhile, scored a 6-1 victory over then-No. 8 Texas at home in Ann Arbor, led by seniors Kate Fahey (Fair Haven, N.J.) and Brienne Minor (Mundelein, Ill.).

The upward movement at the top of the men’s poll happened in Texas, as the Longhorns beat then-No. 7 North Carolina at home to climb to No. 6, and Baylor used a significant three-match sweep of South Florida, Nebraska and UTRGV to replace the Longhorns at No. 8. Tennessee also leapt from No. 22 to No. 16 on the strength of convincing victories over Wichita State and The Citadel.

The Volunteers will take on Duke in the next College MatchDay at the USTA National Campus, live on Tennis Channel at 6 p.m. on Saturday, February 9.

Each team’s point total, specified below, is the sum of its ranking points from the USTA’s panel of 14 voters (listed below). Each voter ranked 25 teams from Nos. 1 to 25, with the first-place team receiving 25 points and the last place team receiving one. For control, the highest and lowest outlying ranking for each team on the ballot was removed. Therefore, the maximum number of points a team can receive is 300. First-place votes were not tallied.

The full list of voters participating in the 2019 rankings are: Casey Angle (former Intercollegiate Tennis Association Director of Championships); Jordan Bishop (The News Press; Stillwater, Okla.); Virgil Christian (USTA Collegiate Tennis); Richard Croome (The Eagle; Bryan, Texas); Sonny Dearth (Daily Press; Newport News, Va.); Granger Huntress (Texas College Tennis); David Fish (Universal Tennis Ratings); Andy Katz (NCAA.com); Bobby Knight (College Tennis Today); Brandon Moglen (Tennis Channel); Shannon Wrege (Tennis Recruiting Network); Michael Patrick (former University of Tennessee women’s head coach), Lisa Stone (Parenting Aces) and Caitlin Thompson (Racquet Magazine).
