“It feels unbelievable. You work so much. You work your whole life, your whole career, and at the end you win a tournament,” Albot said. “This is just a great feeling. I think it’s difficult to put into words.”
“I have to give (Albot) credit,” said Evans.” I thought he played great in the moments when he needed to play great.” Evans who came into the tournament as a qualifier upset second seed John Isner in the semifinals.
Albot will rise from 82 to 52 in the world.
In doubles, the Bryan brothers captured their 117th title as a team.
“We don’t want to stop here,” Bob Bryan said. “We want to keep rolling and hold up bigger [trophies], hopefully a Masters series in the near future and then a GS [grand slam].”
Bob returned to the tour from hip surgery just last month.
