Donald Young Becomes First male Player to Clinch BNP Paribas Open Wild Card; Oracle Challenger Series Results

(February 28, 2019) American Donald Young became the first male player to clinch one of the two wild card spots into the 2019 BNP Paribas Open awarded to the top points-getters over the course of the Series. In addition to his third round appearance in the desert, Young was a quarterfinalist in Chicago and a semifinalist in Newport Beach, which propelled him to the top of the Road to Indian Wells Leaderboard. He lost his match on Thursday to fifth-seeded Lloyd Harris 6-4, 6-2. The No. 1 seeds on both the men’s and the women’s sides cruised to easy victories – Kyle Edmund took down Lukas Rosol 6-3, 6-4, while Wang Qiang defeated American Claire Lui 6-1, 6-4.

Three American women continued their quest to earn a wild card into the BNP Paribas Open with third round victories on Thursday. Nicole Gibbs took care of fellow American Taylor Townsend in straight sets 6-1, 6-1; while Jennifer Brady upset No. 2 seed Alison Riske 6-3, 7-6(4). Francesca DiLorenzo registered her third come-from-behind victory in as many days with a 1-6, 6-2, 7-6(4) victory over Timea Bacsinszky.
