SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY AZTECS WIN FIRST ROUND MATCHES
AT 130th ANNUAL PACIFIC COAST MEN’S DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP
Friday’s Matches Scheduled to Get Underway at 8 a.m. (PST)
LA JOLLA, Calif. – (February 28, 2019) – A pair of San Diego State University doubles teams won matches on opening night of the 130th annual Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship to advance to the second round at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.
In the evening’s abbreviated first-round schedule, Sander Gjoels-Andersen and Rafael Gonzalez Almazan of SDSU eliminated Dylan Flanagan and Charlie Schuls of Villanova, 8-3. The SDSU duo will face eighth-seeded Bryce Pereira and Patrick Zahraj of UCLA on Friday in a second-round match at 11 a.m.
Another SDSU team was also victorious in first-round action as Arnaud Restifo and Fabian Roensdorf combined to blank Collin Klumb and Danny Nomura of Villanova, 8-0. They are slated to take on ninth-seeded Derek Austin and Sean Mullins of Boston College on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
In other first-round matches, the local independent team of Cliff Comfort of San Diego and Campbell Johnson of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., edged Felipe Galvao and Pawel Zenon Jankowiak of Pepperdine, 8-6.
The Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship will use an eight-game pro set format for the first three rounds of the tournament. All matches from the fourth-round through Sunday’s final will use the best two out of three sets format.
