
“Petras” Peak This Week as Kvitova Triumphs in Stuttgart while Martic Claims First Career WTA Title in Istanbul
(April 28, 2019) It was the week for women named Petra on the WTA Tour. No. 3 seed Petra Kvitova beat No. 8 Anett Kontaveit 6-3, 7-6 (2) to win the Porsche Grand Prix final on Sunday in Stuttgart for her second title of 2019. She stopped the string of different winners on the women’s tour.The two-time Wimbledon champion also won the Sydney event in January.
Kvitova now has 27 titles to her name and will move up in the rankings to No. 2.
This was Kontaveit’s fifth final. She received a walkover from top seed Naomi Osaka in the semifinals. Osaka withdrew with an abdominal injury.

Over in Istanbul, Croatian Petra Martic captured her first-ever title on the main tour besting Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 for the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup title. It also marks Martic’s 100th win on the WTA Tour.
