
Thiem Captures Barcelona Title, Berrettini Takes Budapest Crown
(April 28, 2019) No. 3 seed Dominic Thiem took just over an hour to defeat seventh seed Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 6-0 to claim his first Barcelona Open crown.
The Russian Medvedev took a 3-0 lead to open the match and Thiem stormed back taking 12 our of the next 13 games.
The world No. 5 reached the final by beating 11-time champion Rafael Nadal in this semifinal. The Austrian won the title without dropping a set for his 13th career ATP singles trophy.
It’s Thiem’s second trophy of the year. He won his first Masters Series 100 event at Indian Wells in March. Nine of the 25-yeatr-old’s title have come on clay.
Thiem is the first Austrian to win in Barcelona since Thomas Muster (1995, 96).
Thiem said that this title will give him a lot of confidence going into the Madrid Open.

Matteo Berrettini won his second ATP Tour title on Sunday beating Serbian Filip Krajinovic 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 to capture the Hungarian Open in Budapest.
The Italian, ranked at No. 37, came into the tournament on a five-match losing streak. He leaves the event at a all-time career high within the Top 40.
