Finals Take Center Stage on Sunday at Barnes Tennis Center

SAN DIEGO – (June 8, 2019) – Following the completion of Round Robin play on Saturday morning, the USTA National Father-Daughter & Mother-Son Hard Court Championships at the Barnes Tennis Center featured afternoon semifinal matches at the Barnes Tennis Center.

An entertaining Mother-Son semifinal between fourth-seeded Ryan Seggerman and Pamela Seggerman of Coronado, Calif., and top-seeded Christian Settles and Kathryn Settles of Claremont, Calif., proved to be the match of the day.

Playing on Court No. 9, the Seggerman duo ousted the No. 1 seeds with a dramatic 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (8) victory to advance to Sunday’s Mother-Son final against second seeded Diane Barker of Daniel Island, S.C., and Matthew Hane of Richmond, Va.  Barker and Hane defeated third-seeded Dina McBride and Parker McBride of Valencia, Calif., 6-3 6-2 in their semifinal match.

The Mother-Son championship is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

In the Father-Daughter Division, the top four seeded teams finished round-robin play with 3-0 records in their respective flights to advance to the semifinals.

Fourth-seeded Julia Ronney and Doug Ronney of San Diego, eliminated top-seeded Delanie Dunkle and Bill Dunkle of Arroyo Grande, Calif., 7-5, 6-4 and third-seeded Desmond McBride and Jordyn McBride of Valencia, Calif., defeated second-seeded Ilana Gomez Diaz and Carlos Gomez-Diaz of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., 6-4, 6-4 in semifinal matches.

“It’s been a fantastic tournament so far and the best is yet to come with the finals set for Sunday,” said Tournament Director Todd Sprague. “The competition in today’s semifinals was at a very high level and we are looking forward to crowning our national champions in seven divisions tomorrow.”

Sunday’s schedule, which includes Consolation matches in addition to the Finals, will begin at 8 a.m. The tournament welcomes spectators to watch matches with free admission and on-site parking.
