
Kenin Saves Three Championship Points to win Mallorca Open
(June 23, 2019) No.6 seed Sofia Kenin of the United States won a dramatic final against No.3 seed Belinda Bencic, saving three championship points at 5-4 in the second set to win Mallorca Open final on Sunday, 6-7(2), 7-6(5), 6-4. It’s her second title of the year for Kenin, she won Hobart back in January.
Sofia Kenin won her sixth win over a Top 20 player this season with the victory,
“With [Bencic], you have to fight every point, and I’m just really happy with this title. It just means a lot to me,” noted the winner.
Kenin is coming off a Roland Garros run where she beat Serena Williams to reach the fourth round.
“Hard work, for sure, is paying off bigtime,” said Kenin
“I’m playing really well, fighting for every point and taking as much advantage as I can,” Kenin crediting her fighting spirit. “This really is great, and I’m just so happy with how I’m playing.”
Kenin will reach a new career high in her singles ranking on Monday in the Top 30.
