(July 26, 2019) ROCK CREEK PARK, Washington, DC -The 15-year-old who beat her idol Venus Williams in the first round of Wimbledon has qualified as a qualifier for the Citi Open tennis tournament. Coco Gauff, who reached the fourth round of Wimbledon, didn’t know until her Friday news conference that she would be in the qualifying draw.
“I’m super, super excited to be playing in D.C., it’s one of my favorite cities,” Gauff said.
Her fortnight at Wimbledon may have been a dream these past few weeks, but now she’s back to reality. ” It’s a dream and I’m excited to be playing here, now I’m done and have to focus on this tournament.”
With her ranking at 143, Gauff will be the top seed in the qualifying tournament as she has the highest ranking of all of those in the qualifying draw.
