Oracle Challenger Series New Haven Results

September 5, 2019 by Tennis Panorama News

(September 5, 2019) Nine Americans played their way into the quarterfinals with victories on Thursday, led by No. 2 seed Jennifer Brady, who defeated fellow American Nicole Gibbs in straight sets 6-4, 6-3; No. 3 seeded Lauren Davis, who stormed to a come-from-behind victory over No. 15 seed Varvara Lepchenko 4-6, 6-0, 6-4; and Danielle Lao, who came out on top of a back-and-forth affair with Veronica Cepede Royg (7-6(3), 0-6, 6-1). American Usue Maltane Arconada also advanced.

On the men’s side, No. 9 seed Marcos Giron registered a comeback win over No. 8 seed Denis Istomin 2-6, 7-6(1), 6-3; No. 6 seed Tommy Paul took out countryman Sekou Bangoura 6-1, 7-5; and Noah Rubin dispatched No. 7 seed Henri Laaksonen 6-2, 6-2 in just under an hour. The No. 4 seed and Oracle Challenger Series Houston Champion Bradley Klahn finished up his second round match against Ulises Blanch first thing this morning after the action was suspended due to darkness last night, and then followed that up with a tough, three-set tiebreak victory over Christopher Eubanks later in the day to advance to the quarterfinals.

Friday’s play will feature the single’s quarterfinals, as well as the men’s and women’s doubles semifinals.
