Tennis Returns to River Oaks April 4-12, 2020

HOUSTON – Two-time Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship finalist Sam Querrey will return to River Oaks in 2020 for the April 4-12 ATP 250 tournament.

“I’m super excited to return to Houston in 2020 for the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship,” Querrey said. “I have had a lot of success in Houston over the years, and the fan base is among the very best in tennis. River Oaks is a wonderful historic venue to play at, and I aim to bring home the title in 2020.”

Querrey will be making his 12th appearance at the tournament and boasts a career record of 17-10 in Houston. He reached the finals in 2010 (losing to Juan Ignacio Chela) and 2015 (losing to Jack Sock  and has been to the semifinals on two other occasions, including in 2019. He also was the 2012 doubles champion at River Oaks, partnering with James Blake, one year after having reached the final (with John Isner).

In his career, Querrey has won 10 ATP titles and reached another nine finals. He has reached at least one final in each of the past five seasons. A Wimbledon semifinalist in 2017, he has reached at least the quarterfinals there three times in the last four years.

“Sam has always been a fan-favorite here at River Oaks,” said Tournament Director Bronwyn Greer. “He’s not only a great champion, but he is always generous with his time to support the tournament and our community outreach programs. We’re excited Sam will be returning to the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship in 2020.”

Querrey is the second player, and second American, to be announced for the 2020 field. The tournament previously announced a commitment from 21-year-old Frances Tiafoe. The initial entry list for the 28-player field will be announced in February, with additional commitments expected in the coming weeks.

Season tickets for the 2020 tournament are on sale, with single session tickets going on sale Dec. 1. For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit mensclaycourt.com/tickets.

The Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship, held at River Oaks Country Club, is an ATP Tour 250 tournament that annually benefits the National Junior Tennis & Learning programs of the Houston Tennis Association.
