
Denis Shapovalov Nets Stockholm Trophy for First ATP Tournament Title
(October 20, 2019) Canadian Denis Shapovalov became the 15th player of the ATP Tour this year to win his first ATP tournament when he defeated Filip and becomes the 15th player this season to have won his first ATP tournament when he defeated Filip Krajinovic of Serbia 6-4, 6-4 in the final of the Stockholm Open on Sunday.
“I am definitely super happy and just really proud,” said Shapovalov. “Me and my team have worked really hard to get into this position of lifting a title, so I am really proud of myself and proud of my team right now.”
This is the second straight year that a 20-year-old has won the title as his first ATP career title. Last year it was Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas who captured the Stockholm trophy.
Next stop for the Canadian, who is ranked 34, will be Milan for the 21-and-under Next Gen Finals which begin on November 5.
