Oracle Challenger Series Houston – Wednesday Summary and Results
(November 13, 2019) A chilly but busy Wednesday saw the top seeds take the court, as men’s No. 1 seed Tennys Sandgren cruised to a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Edan Leshem; No. 2 seed Bradley Klahn defeated Filip Cristian Jianu 7-5, 6-3; and women’s No. 2 seed Taylor Townsend downed Anna Danilina 6-2, 6-4. Top seed and World No. 31 Danielle Collins did not fare as well, as she was upset by unseeded Anhelina Kalinina 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 in a match that was interrupted by rain multiple times. Other notable results include Usue Arconada’s perfect 6-0, 6-0 win over Hanna Chang, while Bethanie Mattek-Sands matched her accomplishment with a 6-0, 6-0 victory of her own over Allie Kiick.
Play begins at 11 am on Thursday, as all players will be in action vying for spots in Friday’s quarterfinals. Comeback queen CiCi Bellis will square off against No. 3 seed Kirsten Flipkens; Eugenie Bouchard will face No. 10 seed Mandy Minella; and wild card CoCo Vandeweghe will take on Kalinina. The day will also feature plenty of doubles action on both the men’s and women’s sides. Players will be made available for interviews after each of their matches should you be interested in speaking with them.
Additionally, the Oracle Champions Cup – a men’s legends event featuring Andy Roddick, James Blake, Tommy Haas and Juan Carlos Ferrero – will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Tudor Fieldhouse at Rice University.
