Spain Defeats Canada to Win Sixth Davis Cup Title
(November 24, 2019) Rafael Nadal defeated Denis Shapovalov to improve to clinch the 2019 Davis Cup title in Madrid for Spain. The 19-time major champiom now has a 29-1 win-loss record in Davis Cup singles matches, and maintained his singles winning streak in the competition . He has not lost a Davis Cup singles match since falling to Jiri Novak in his debut in 2004.
Spain has won the Davis Cup for the sixth time, having also won the title in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2011.
Roberto Bautista Agut’s victory against Felix Auger-Aliassime was his eighth match-win in Davis Cup action for Spain. He became the 10th Spanish player to win a match in a Davis Cup final.
Canada recorded their best-ever Davis Cup performance this year. Their previous best results were reaching the semifinals in both 1913 and 2013.
