Singles Draws Revealed at Australian Open

(January 16, 2020) The men ‘s and women’s singles draws of the 2020 Australian Open were revealed in Melbourne Park ahead of the major tennis tournament which begins on Monday.

In the men’s draw, top seed Rafael Nadal will open against Hugo Dellien, while defending champion and second seed Novak Djokovic will begin his quest against Jan-Lennard Struff. Third seed Roger Federer, who is in Djokovic’s half of the draw starts out versus Steve Johnson. Fourth seed Daniil Medvedev with face former quarterfinalist Frances Tiafoe to begin the tournament.

In the women’s draw, top seed Ash Barty, who is trying to become the first Aussie since Chris O’Neil in 1978 to win the title in Melbourne will take on Lesia Tsurenko in the first round. Defending champion Naomi Osaka starts out against Marie Bouzkova. The No. 3 Osaka is in the most competitive quarter of the draw, the second quarter. This quarter includes Serena Williams who is seeking her 24th major title, and her sister Venus, who will be playing Coco Gauff. Gauff beat Venus Williams in the first round of last year’s Wimbledon tournament.

Caroline Wozniacki, 2018 champion, playing her last tournament before retirement, is also in the second quarter. Former major champions Sam Stosur and Sloane Stephens are also in the same part of the draw.

The bottom half of the men’s singles draw and the top half of the women’s singles draw will play on Monday at the #AusOpen
