KEI NISHIKORI WITHDRAWS FROM BEACH OPEN

FEBRUARY 8, 2020, DELRAY BEACH, FL – Today, the Delray Beach Open by VITACOST.com (https://yellowtennisball.com/) announced that Kei Nishikori is withdrawing from the 2020 event due to an elbow injury. The tournament still holds three wildcards for the 32-player ATP 250 main event. In Nishikori’s place in the featured 2:30pm match on Tues., Feb. 18, Reilly Opelka will begin his 2020 Delray Beach Open.

Opelka, currently ranked No. 38, is making his 3rd appearance in Delray Beach after previously reaching the quarterfinals in 2018. Opelka has been ranked as high as No. 31 and won his first career title in 2019 at the New York Open.

“Kei is such a tremendous competitor, I know we’ll see him back in Delray Beach. We’re all rooting for his health and return in top form,” said Mark Baron, Tournament Director. “With such a deep field, this gives us a chance to feature one of our young fan-favorite Americans and we’re glad to be able to promote Reilly to the Super Tuesday bill. This will be such a fantastic day and night for fans.”

Delray Beach’s complete singles acceptance list includes Nick Kyrgios (AUS), Milos Raonic (CAN), fan-favorite Americans Opelka, Taylor Fritz (Rancho Santa Fe, CA), 2018 Delray Beach champion Frances Tiafoe (Hyattsville, MD) and 2020 Australian Open quarterfinalist Tennys Sandgren (Gallatin, TN); defending champion Radu Albot (MDA), Next Gen stars Ugo Humbert (FRA) and Miomir Kecmanovic (SRB) plus the following other ATP Tour stars: Damir Dzumhur (BIH), Kyle Edmund (GBR), Steve Johnson (USA), Soonwoo Kwon (KOR), Adrian Mannarino (FRA), Mackenzie McDonald (USA), John Millman (AUS), Yoshihito Nishioka (JPN), Tommy Paul (USA), Andreas Seppi (ITA), Cedrik-Marcel Stebe (GER), Jordan Thompson (AUS), and Yasutaka Uchiyama (JPN).

The 10-day tournament will open Valentine’s Day weekend with the ATP Champions Tour team event and a special exhibition match starring local teen tennis star Coco Gauff. The Team Europe vs Team World match-up will showcase tennis legends David Ferrer, James Blake, Tommy Haas, Marcos Baghdatis and other fan-favorites.

On President’s Day Monday, Feb. 17, the game’s reigning stars take center court commencing the ATP 250 matches. Fans can book now for the tournament’s “Super Tuesday” (Feb. 18) featuring Opelka, Nick Kyrgios, and Milos Raonic while the winningest team of all-time Bob and Mike Bryan begin their final Tour appearance in Delray Beach on Wednesday night, Feb. 19.
