
AMERICAN SACHIA VICKERY AND YANINA WICKMAYER OF BELGIUM
HEADLINE PLAYER FIELD AT 10TH ANNUAL SHOEBACCA WOMEN’S OPEN
$25,000 USTA Pro Circuit Event Set for Feb. 23-29 at Morgan Run Club & Resort
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – (February 14, 2020) – American Sachia Vickery and former US Open semifinalist Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium headline the player field for the 10th annual Shoebacca Women’s Open tennis tournament scheduled for Sunday, February 23 through Saturday, February 29 at Morgan Run Club & Resort, 5690 Cancha de Golf, Rancho Santa Fe, CA 92091.
The 30-year-old Wickmayer is currently ranked No. 143 in the Women’s Tennis Association singles rankings. She reached the US Open semifinals in 2009 and later achieved a career-high No. 12 singles ranking in 2010. Wickmayer has won five career WTA singles titles and two WTA doubles championships.
Vickery, a 24-year-old native of Miramar, Fla., is currently No. 155 in the WTA singles rankings. She was ranked as high as No. 73 in 2018. Earlier that year, Vickery scored one of her biggest career wins when she upset former World No. 1 Garbiñe Muguruza of Spain 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif. In 2013, Vickery captured the USTA Billie Jean King Girls’ 18s National Championship at San Diego’s Barnes Tennis Center.
Other Americans entered in the main singles draw are Danielle Lao, a former collegiate standout at USC who is ranked No. 196, and 18-year-old Hailey Baptiste, who captured three International Tennis Federation singles titles in 2019. She is ranked No. 240.
Also entered in the main singles draw is 17-year-old Alexa Noel, currently the No. 6 ranked player in the ITF junior rankings. Among player entries in singles qualifying are Americans Claire Liu (No. 289), a former Wimbledon girls’ singles champion, and Kayla Day (No. 441), a former USTA Girls’ 18s National champion .

The $25,000 United States Tennis Association Pro Circuit event will feature a 32-player singles main draw, a 16-team doubles draw, and a 32-player singles qualifying draw. Eight players will advance from the qualifying singles draw to the main singles draw.
Qualifying matches begin on Sunday, February 23 with Main Draw Singles and Doubles matches getting underway on Monday, February 24. The tournament concludes Saturday, February 29 with the Women’s Singles and Doubles Championships. Admission for spectators and on-site parking will be free each day.

Past tournament participants include American stars Madison Keys, Sofia Kenin, Danielle Rose Collins, CiCi Bellis, defending singles champion Nicole Gibbs, and current Rancho Santa Fe resident CoCo Vandeweghe. Canada’s Bianca Andreescu, the reigning US Open champion, won the tournament singles title in Rancho Santa Fe in 2017.
