Seeds Announced for131st Annual Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship

TOURNAMENT OFFICIALS ANNOUNCE SEEDS FOR UPCOMING
131st ANNUAL PACIFIC COAST MEN’S DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP

Tournament Set for March 6-8, 2020 at La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club

LA JOLLA, Calif. – (March 2, 2020) – The USC team of Bradley Frye and Riley Smith, along with Keegan Smith of UCLA and UCLA Assistant Coach Johannes (Rikus) de Villiers have been named co-No. 1 seeds for the 131st Annual Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship, scheduled for Friday, March 6 through Sunday, March 8 at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, 2000 Spindrift Dr, La Jolla, CA 92037.

De Villiers, a native of South Africa who is in his second year as UCLA men’s tennis assistant coach, captured the title at last year’s Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship with UCLA’s Govind Nanda. They defeated the USC team of Brandon Holt and Riley Smith 7-6, 4-6, [10-4] in the 2019 final.

The Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Tennis Championship features a dual seeding format for collegiate players and independent competitors, which includes college coaches, teaching professionals, highly-ranked juniors and former touring professionals. 
 
“We are amazed with the depth and strength of this year’s tournament field. With so many outstanding doubles teams entered, we are expecting three exciting days of high-level doubles competition,” said Tournament Director Bill Kellogg.

Many of the best NCAA Men’s college teams in the country have entered the tournament, including:

Ball State                                             UC Los Angeles
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS)       UC San Diego
Oklahoma State University               University of San Diego
Pepperdine                                         University of Southern California
San Diego State University               University of Michigan
Stanford                                              Villanova
UC Berkeley                                       Washington University St Louis

The USC men’s tennis team is currently ranked No. 1 in the latest Tennis Channel/USTA College Tennis Top 25 rankings. To view the full list, click here.

The starting times for each day of the tournament will be as follows: Friday, March 6 – 8 a.m.; Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8 – 9 a.m. (All times PST).

The first three rounds of the tournament are scheduled on Friday and will use an eight-game Pro Set format. Matches on Saturday and Sunday will be best two of three sets.

La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club welcomes tennis spectators to view the tournament with free admission.
