
Grigor Dimitrov Tests Positive for COVID-19
(June 21, 2020) Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov announced on his Instagram page that he as been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Monaco.
The 29-year-old Dimitrov had just returned from Croatia, after taking part in the second tournament of Novak Djokovic‘s Adria Tour in Zadar. The previous week, Dimitrov took part in Djokovic’s tour in Belgrade, Serbia.
The 19th-ranked player withdrew from the event on Saturday after losing 4-1, 4-1 to Borna Coric.
As a result of Dimitrov’s illness, the Sunday final between Andrey Rublev and Novak Djokovic was cancelled.
“We have just been informed that Grigor Dimitrov has tested positive for coronavirus and we will have to call off the final of the tournament in Zadar,” event director Goran Ivanisevic told the audience, just before the final was scheduled to begin.
The two-day event included No. 1 Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Marin Cilic, Borna Coric, Andrey Rublev, plus a few lesser known players.
