Tennis Channel To Broadcast Serena Williams’ Return to the Court Next Week at Top Seed Open in Lexington

(August 5, 2020) Tennis Channel will have live coverage of Serena Williams as she returns to the court at the WTA’s inaugural Top Seed Open in Lexington, Ky., Aug. 10-16 – the first WTA event in the United States since the advent of the global pandemic. The action will begin Monday, Aug. 10, at 11:30 a.m. ET, and run through the end of the day’s play, likely around 6:30 p.m. ET (complete schedule below).

Williams has not played since appearing on the U.S. Fed Cup team in early February. With the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in early March both the men’s and women’s professional tennis tours went on hiatus, with the women’s tour returning this week in Italy and the men’s scheduled to resume August 22 in New York City. The 23-time major singles champion is just one shy of Margaret Court’s 24, and will have another opportunity to tie the record at the US Open at the end of this month. Williams is considered by many to be one the greatest – if not the greatest – tennis player of all time.

Her sister Venus Williams with seven major singles championships, is also planning to play in Lexington next week. Joining these two future Hall of Famers is a lineup of past champions and talented young players. Sloane Stephens won the 2017 U.S. Open and reached the final of the 2018 French Open. Victoria Azarenka won back-to-back Australian Open singles titles in 2012 and 2013. Sixteen-year-old Coco Gauff has taken the sport by storm since defeating Venus Williams at her first main-draw Wimbledon match in 2018. Another rising star, Amada Anisimova, reached the 2019 French Open semifinals after upsetting defending-champion Simona Halep.
