Jennifer Brady Wins Top Seed Open for First WTA Tour Title
(August 16, 2020) World No. 49, Jennifer Brady won her first WTA title in her first tour-level final on Sunday when she defeated Jil Teichmann of Switzerland 6-3, 6-4 at the inaugural Top Seed Open in Lexington, Kentucky. This was the first official tournament held in the United States since COVID-19 pandemic put the tennis tour on hiatus since early March.
“It feels great to win my first title,” said the 25-year-old American. “There’s only one winner each week, so walking away with the trophy for the first time, at home in America, I’m really happy.”

Brady did not lose a set during the entire tournament.
Fresh off of a semifinal win over Coco Gauff, Brady said she was full of confidence coming into the final: “Before I walked onto the court, I knew I had to believe I could win, otherwise playing the match wouldn’t have even made sense. I feel like I started the match slower on my serve. In my past few matches this week, I’ve been serving really well; I didn’t look at the stats today but I know for a fact that it wasn’t as high today as it has been. That had something to do with nerves.”
