
Benoit Paire Out of the US Open Due to Positive COVID-19 Test
(August 30, 2020) Although the USTA put out a statement that a player has tested positive for COVID-19 without naming the player.
USTA Statement on Player Testing Positive for COVID-19 at the US Open
A player has tested positive for COVID-19 at the US Open and has been withdrawn from the tournament. The player is asymptomatic.
The USTA, together with its medical advisors and infectious disease specialist from the Mount Sinai Health System, confirmed a positive test result for a player. In accordance with New York State Department of Health requirements, and in alignment with CDC guidelines and the Tournament health and safety protocols, the player has been advised that they must isolate for at least 10 days. In addition, contact tracing has been initiated to determine if anyone must quarantine for 14 days.
The French paper L’Equipe along with other media sources report that Frenchmen Benoit Paire is the player which tested positive and is isolating. He is replaced in the draw by doubles player Marcel Granollers, ranked 149 in singles. Since there was no qualification tournament, replacements are coming from doubles players on site with the highest singles rankings.

The 22nd ranked Paire retired from his singles match against Borna Coric on August 22nd during the Western & Southern Open, held on the grounds on the US Open.

L’Equipe is also reporting that players Richard Gasquet, Grégoire Barrere, Edouard Roger-Vasselin, Adrian Mannarino and coach Nicolas Copin have been confined to their rooms until further notice.
