Naomi Osaka Wins Second Australian Open Championship for Fourth Major Title
(February 20, 2021) Third seed Naomi Osaka won her second Australian Open singles championship and fourth major title on Saturday night in Melbourne when she defeated the 22nd seed, American Jennifer Brady 6-4, 6-3 in Rod Laver Arena to extend a current winning streak to 21.
The woman who represents Japan joins elite company by winning the final of her first four major finals. The last woman to accomplish the feat was Monica Seles in the early 90’s. She now has seven career WTA Tour titles.
The 23-year-old has now won a major title in each of the last 4 years – 2018 – the U.S. Open, 2019 – the Australia Open, 2020 – the U.S. Open and this year another Melbourne crown.

For Jennifer Brady, it was the 25-year-old’s debut in a major final. Brady became the seventh woman in the past nine majors to make a debut in the final, and the 15th American woman to reach the Australian Open final in the Open Era.
Brady will move into the Top 20 for the first time in the WTA rankings on Monday at No. 13.
The American was one of the player who had to go into a 15-day hard quarantine getting into Melbourne when someone on her flight tested positive for COVID-19.

Osaka, who beat Serena Williams in the semifinals will move up to No. 2 in the world as of Monday.
