Gauff Doubles Up in Parma, Tsitsipas Claims Lyon, Ruud Wins Geneva, and Badosa is Tops in Belgrade
(May 23, 2021) Seventeen-year-old Coco Gauff doubled up on titles on Saturday. The young American took home both the singles and doubles titles in Parma at the Emilia -Romagna Open. Gauff bested sixth seed Qiang Wang in straight sets for her first title of the year and second of her career.
Gauff is the youngest player to win both singles and doubles titles at a tournament since Maria Sharapova did it in 2004 in Birmingham, just 92 days after Gauff was born.
Gauff paired with Caty McNally to win their third doubles title together.
Spain’s Paula Badosa won the Serbia Open crown on Saturday when her opponent Croatia’s Ana Konjuh retired with a right hip injury. Badosa was leading 6-2, 2-0. Badosa becomes the seventh woman to win their first WTA title this year.
Stefanos Tsitsipas won his seventh career ATP tour title on Sunday with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Britain’s Cameron Norrie. The Greek won his second title of the year with the victory.
“I love it here. It was a good week for me, played good tennis, played at the top of my game in some of the matches,” he said after the match. “For sure, I can move to the French Open with a little bit more confidence and get to play more matches.”
On Saturday in Geneva, Norway’s Casper Ruud knocked out Canadian Denis Shapovalov 7-6(6), 6-4 for his second career ATP Tour title. Ruud’s ranking with the win puts him back into the Top 20.
