
Rafael Nadal Pulls Out of Wimbledon and the Olympic Games
(June 17, 2021) Rafael Nadal announced on Twitter on Thursday that he will not participate at Wimbledon or the Olympic Games. He cites that “the fact that there has only been 2 weeks between RG and Wimbledon, didn’t make it easier on my body to recuperate after the always demanding clay court season.”
The 35-year-old Spaniard said that he is listening to his body in order to prolong his career.

The goal is to prolong my career and continue to do what makes me happy, that is to compete at the highest level and keep fighting for those professional and personal goals at he maximum level of competition.

The 20-time major champion is just off a loss in the semifinals of the French Open to the eventual winner Novak Djokovic. It was just Nadal’s third-ever loss at Roland Garros. Nadal is a two-time Wimbledon champion and captured the tennis singles gold in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and took home the doubles gold in 2016 at the Rio Olympics.
